402m Drag Racing Brasov 2013

In the late days of August Brasov is host to a drag race, it is organised on the city streets as there aren't any dedicated drag tracks in the country. A new excuse to spend some time with friends. Who can conquer the 402m?

Two boosted BMWs go head to head, only one can win.

The king of the hill, a 800HP Porche that recorded a 10.7

Subaru scooping some air

The diesel class is a very crowded and the VW is king.

The bandit

Loose security rules lead to a lot of fun.

E36 Meet Brasov 2013

As the Hill Climb and Rally championships rage onward I take a break and spend some time with my friends at the annual E36 meet in Brasov.

People come form all parts of the country, some driving hundreds of km to get together and show their cars.

So every year the city is invaded by BMWs twice a year once by E30s and once by E36s.

Style is the most important thing as power and handling take a back seat.

This is the place to see the latest trends.

And the nicest wheels.

And the nicest aero mods.

The column of cars reaches as far as the eye can see.

Some go crazy

Some go slow and low

Multi piece BBS are all the rage.

As the car club takes a nice ride on the touge, aka the road to Poiana Brasov

But not all the cars are about style, some are about how fast you can cover 402 meters.

But the overall atmosphere is very relaxed as they make their way up the mountain.

These days all it takes to make a car look special is a paint job and some killer wheels.

Some do it better then others.

But in the end is all about preference and taste.

BMW the ultimate driving machine be it old or new.

Grassroots drifting take 1

Although dangerous the street is the place where most of us here in Romania learn to drive and drifting in the rain is the best way to learn to control a car.

The weapon of choice is the E30 and E36 BMW

It is always nice to spend some time with friends.

Friends that are joined by a common passion, cars.

And as the night comes my camera gets overwhelmed by the darkness.

Project E30

The BMW E30, my pet project, this is my weekend warrior, the car that brings me great joy and sometimes great sadness. This car has evolved with my skills.

The first upgrade I did was proper suspension, brakes and poly bushes, this made the car nice and tight

But then more power was necessary as the 1.6 liter engine was seriously lacking power from factory at 100 HP and on top of that it was running very rough and was on its last legs.

So a 2.5 liter strait 6 from an E34 was sourced, the engine was missing exhaust, intake and manifolds, oil pan and various misc parts, but with the help of many friends, especially Sergiu, all were found.

Late at night out with the old and in with the new. My friends were debating the following steps, but the steps were go home and go to bed.

With the engine installed a father-son project began creating an exhaust from scratch, I used and X5 mid silencer and an DIY back box. The result is a free flow exhaust, the sound is amazing, very quiet at low revs, but nice and loud near the rev limiter.

The next upgrade is better skills as the jump form 75 or so HP the old engine had to a healthy 200 HP is quite a change.
